About LCI - Our Beginning
In the early 1960’s Robert S. Laughlin, a second generation Oregon orchardist began diversifying his farming operation by utilizing his trucks to haul local agricultural products during the winter season. His winter endeavors progressed from delivering feed stocks to local dairies in the Willamette Valley of Western Oregon, to transporting local grains to the Port of Portland and Columbia River terminals for export.
By 1975, Robert and his wife Dorothy had grown the business, finding it necessary to incorporate the farming operation independently of their trucking enterprise and worked to expand their transportation routes into more of Oregon and Washington.
With transportation routes now covering a much larger geographical area, the need to increase efficiency by purchasing grains for back hauls became evident. By building on their philosophy of providing good service at competitive prices the company expanded its merchandising staff to meet demand.
In 1982 Laughlin Cartrell Inc. was formed to assume the merchandising duties previously carried on by Laughlin Trucking, Inc. Twenty Nine years later, Laughlin Cartrell, Inc. has grown into a premier distributor of feed grains, whole grains for food and export, and various protein products for feed use serving customers in eleven western states and Canada.
Nearly 5 decades later from its humble beginnings, LCI has grown substantially and continues to provide the highest level of service and innovative product solutions to a large group of valued customers.
LCI makes commerce happen.
